Katy Perry: Part of Me - B-

Rated PG, 95 minutes

"Katy Perry: Part of Me" is fun but strictly for her fans

Katy Perry
Those familiar with pop singer Katy Perry may not think much of her music and therefore think her new 3D concert film will have the same substance as some of her tween-inspired music. But her detractors might be surprised to learn that the film has more substance than you might think. "Katy Perry: Part of Me" is a concert film that features loads of her music and portions of her stage show, not to mention detailing Perry's upbringing, start in the business and eventual rise to fame. Though those sections are entertaining, it's hardly revealing given most everyone knows about those things; the most fascinating aspect gives insight into her marital breakup from comedian Russell Brand, who makes a few fleeting appearances in the film. "Katy Perry: Part of Me" is an otherwise enjoyable piece of fluff but deserves kudos for showing what the price of fame does to relationships. "I did everything I could and it still wasn't enough," Perry says of the breakup, and while the exact details of the breakup aren't explained, it's implied that the busy careers of both Perry and Brand were to blame. The rest of "Part of Me's" footage is devoted to Perry's stage performances and preparation, music and meet and greets with fans, who'll get the most out of it. "Katy Perry: Part of Me" is an entertaining, mildly revealing look at a colorful pop singer's rise to fame. Much like her music, it's fun for awhile but you won't remember it after it's over.
