"Sound of My Voice" is an engaging character study
"Sound
of My Voice" is an independent, low-budget drama about a young
journalist (Christopher Denham) and his girlfriend (Nicole Vicius) who
are attempting to make an undercover investigative documentary to expose
a magnetic cult leader (Brit Marling, from "Another Earth") who claims
to be from the future. They get pulled in farther than they like, only
exposing their character flaws. Engaging, fascinating character study
from newcomer Zal Batmangli, with strong performances
from the three leads, particularly Marling, who is mesmerizing as the
cult leader. It loses a little steam with a weak second act and ending,
but overall a solid effort and worth a look.
